Microphone doesn’t work / no sound detected?
- Check that the app has microphone permission (iOS: Settings → Privacy → Microphone; Android: Settings → Apps → HarpMaster → Permissions)
- Quit and relaunch the app (iOS may kill the mic session in background)
- Play closer to the mic in a quiet environment
My harmonica isn’t in C key — can I still use it?
Yes. 21 keys are supported (Low C through High G). Open Settings and pick your harmonica’s key.
The detected notes don’t map to the right holes on my harmonica?
Check:
- Is the key correct? A G-harmonica set as C will show everything shifted
- Is the position correct? 1st position is default; 2nd position is typical for blues
- Is the tuning correct? Standard Richter vs. Country / Paddy Richter / minor tunings
iOS loses sound after returning from background?
iOS restricts audio sessions in background. The app has recovery logic: on returning to foreground, mic auto-restarts after 300ms. If it still fails, manually toggle the mic button.
What’s the difference between Piano Roll / Jianpu / Staff views?
- Piano Roll: Most intuitive — Y-axis is pitch, bars represent note durations
- Jianpu: Chinese numbered notation — 1–7 degrees with octave dots and accidentals
- Staff: Standard Western notation with key signatures and accidentals
How do I record my own playing?
Tap the record (red dot) button to start, tap again to stop. The recording list lets you replay, export MIDI, or delete. Recordings stay on your device — they are never uploaded. (See the privacy policy for what the app does upload — device identifier, pseudonymous analytics, crash reports.)
What do the three practice scores mean?
- Pitch (40%): How close your pitch matches the target note
- Timing (40%): How close your attacks are to the beat grid
- Hit rate (20%): Whether you successfully triggered the note at all
Is “remove ads” a one-time purchase or a subscription?
One-time. Permanent once purchased (device-bound). Apple / Google / Alipay / WeChat Pay are separate — use “Restore Purchase” on a new device.
Any plans for chromatic / tremolo / bass harmonicas?
On the roadmap. Phase 1 focuses on 10-hole Blues harmonica (largest market). Other types will come.
